Taiko Dubai offers contemporary Asian cuisine in a dramatic setting.   Taiko Dubai at the Sofitel Dubai The Obelisk is the first international outpost of Taiko, created by Executive Chef Schilo van Coevorden. Guido Wesselman was chosen by Schilo as Taiko Dubai’s head chef, bringing 12 years of international experience to the restaurant.   The restaurant’s interior design takes inspiration from traditional Asian materials and craftsmanship to create dramatic ambience that feels contemporary. An open kitchen surrounds a char-fired robata grill. A tree standing tall in the centre of the dining area is styled seasonally, with cherry blossoms in spring, lush greens during summer and red acorns in autumn.   Taiko Dubai’s menu is a celebration of different Asian cuisines, but particularly of Japanese food. Menu highlights include the Arabic lamb gyozas, the scallop nigiri and the dynamite wasabi prawns. Taiko Dubai also serves a range of robatayaki steak, fish and poultry, cooked on the robata grill in the centre of the open kitchen.   Desserts on offer include churros with a kinako, chocolate and sesame sauce, as well as mango iced tea kakigori served with passionfruit and condensed milk.   Happy hour is from 6pm to 8pm every day at Taiko Bar, with a huge selection of drinks to choose from. Taiko Dubai has an extensive sake and wine list, as well as a significant list of Japanese whiskies. There is a signature cocktail list organised by season, and even a cigar menu.   Taiko Dubai also has a number of specific menus for special diets, including a gluten-free menu, a vegetarian menu, a halal menu and a salt-free menu. There is also a children’s menu, featuring dishes such as beef skewers and vegetable tempura.   Taiko Dubai also hosts a brunch event every Saturday afternoon from 1pm. Serving a five-course set menu that rotates weekly and featuring a live DJ and an afterparty in Taiko Bar from 4pm. Taiko Dubai’s Saturday brunch is available from AED 495 per person with house beverages.    Taiko Dubai is an ambient setting in which to enjoy contemporary Asian cuisine.
