The restaurants in Al Karama are what give the area such a unique character. Yes, there are bustling markets and beautiful murals, but it is food that puts it on the map. Since the area has a large population from southern Asia, there is some great Indian food in Al Karama. From relaxed, street food-inspired eateries to fine dining, you can try all different types of food from India within a few blocks.
Al Karama is actually one of the oldest areas in the whole of Dubai. Located on the west banks of Dubai Creek, the district was planned on a tight grid and is one of the most populous of the city. As we said earlier, the population is primarily south Asian, although Dubai’s native middle class is well-represented here too. As such, there’s a great mixture of food to try. We recommend sampling the various thalis in the area - it’s such a great way to try as many dishes as possible in one go. One slightly unexpected addition to the Al Karama dining scene is vegan restaurants - there are quite a few. So, anyone who prefers a plant-based selection of food will be well catered to here.
Due to the sheer number of hotels in Dubai, Al Karama was bound to have a couple too. These hotel restaurants, however, are a welcome addition, as they often boast incredible views over the rest of the city. Here, the cuisine is usually more global, plus the restaurant is allowed to serve alcohol, so you can enjoy a cocktail as you watch the sunset before dinner. Whatever you're in the mood for, there is a huge number of restaurants in Al Karama so we recommend having a good browse around before your make your decision.
